According to information from Cupertinoites, Apple is delaying the activation of the system to optimize the iCloud image scanning project that the company announced a month ago. The aim of the project is to combat child abuse, and Apple will do it by scanning iCloud photos.
On the website 9to5Mac, Apple said: “Last month we unveiled a program to protect children from abuses that use communication tools to harm children, and we wanted to stop the publication of child sexual content (CSAM)”.
“According to feedback from users, civic groups, researchers, and others, we decided to spend more time in the coming months doing more research and optimizing before these important features are available.”
iPadOS 15, iOS 15 and macOS Monterey updates will include child protection. However, Apple did not make any further announcements about this application.
According to Apple’s announcement, to scan users’ files stored on their devices, the company used a known database of CSAM image hashes and no longer uses image scanning.
Special encryption technology has been used to help with this process. The iPhone generates an encrypted security certificate that encrypts the test results along with other image information, and it is stored in iCloud photos.
Although Apple has been criticized a lot for this feature because it invades privacy, the company has not changed its decision and it also argues that big technology companies like Facebook or Google can’t have a privacy feature as good as theirs.
